Fluency in Language

I admit that my written English is not top-notch and I do have difficulties in conveying my point with a punch at times. My good friend even pointed out that people might not take my blog seriously because of the grammatical errors I had.

I never had the grammar concept nailed. This is how I learn the language. I learn my hearing the sound of the words. How the sentence is put together. The meaning behind the words. Not really the logic of it. Does it make sense? When I hear words, I see picture. In training, I skipped 'A' level and had my academic in technology. I am very good with logic of how things run. I can see how things work.

Except in English language. Life to short to argue about the logic of the language.

Eclipse of the Moon

Tomorrow night, around 7pm to 7.30pm ish, an eclipse of the moon will happen.

What happens is, the shadow of the earth will fall onto the moon. Therefore, the moon will be dark. It is going to be a full moon tomorrow night but because of the eclipse, the moon will be darkened by the shadow.

Eclipse of the moon is not as exciting as the eclipse of the sun. But it is as significant as well.

Greying Population

In the recent NDP speech by the Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, the most talked and discuss topic is the aging population in Singapore. The statistics in The Straits Times today said that Singaporean are willing or have to work beyond their retirement age.

The government is doing their part in adequating and educating the working and retiring Singaporean the importance of CPF. We are lucky in Singapore that we do have such system in place to help us retire adequately.

Would a retiree want to work 40 to 50hrs monthly as before? I don't think I would want my Dad to. A new start when you retire. Retiring is not a drag. It is a breath of fresh air. How? you ask? Stay tuned....

Are you "Spoke"

A new "Wiki of people search" is taking her sit on the WWW search engines. This search engine is called Spoke.com. You can search people by a person's name and list of their names would appear on the list with their details and contacts network. Spoke.com has been compiling names and profile and added 1million names every day.

My first visit search was of myself. I saw my Name and Contacts in brief. :-) I exist on Spoke! I am important and connected enough to be Spoke!

It use to be that if I can be Googled, then I exist. Shall I say now, I can be "Spoked".

Origins of Teh-C

I have always thought that Teh-C is a term that originates from one of the Chinese dialect like Hokkien or Cantonese. I have not visually seen the word. It is usually a verbal word rather than written. I assumed that it is spelled as Teh-see.

Recently, I saw a headline on an article titled Kopi-O, Teh-C... Ah ha! Teh-"C" and not Teh-see. So where does the "C" comes from? I asked a Chinese friend of mine if it is Hokkien or Teochew etc. She said, not really.

Teh-C is made of tea with evaporated milk instead of regular sweetened concentrated milk. In Malay language, evaporated milk is called Susu Cair (pronounce Soo Soo Cha-air). So I concluded that the term Teh-C comes from Malaysia. A short for Teh Cair = Teh-C.
