Flip the Calendar Page

Flipping the calendar page marks a beginning of the Q3 for some. How have you fair the past quarter? Did you do better than Q1? What are your plans for the coming quarter? How can you do better?

Start of 7% GST in Singapore and yesterday we say farewell to the National Stadium and looking forward to the new National Day celebration at the temp location on the water that I could not get the tickets for. (Grumble, grumble)

K.I.S.S.

Keep It Simply Simple

I think that is one of meaning of it. I cannot emphasize more on this. I fall into the trap of making simple things complex all the time. By the time, things get to that point, I lose interest in the project.

KISS complexity goodbye.

Lost Art of Handwriting

Do you recognise your handwriting? I have been using the computer since my teenage years (which is 15 years now) and very intensely for the last 10 years. Everything I need, even to take notes, I use the notepad on the computer. The only reason is because, I am always in front of the computer which is very accessible.

Time to time, I scribbled words on post-it notes. Only recently when I start journalling my days, I realized that my handwriting has changed. Looking back at my diaries from my teenage years, my strokes, curves and pressures has matured. They are more relaxed, careful and elegant :-). How beautiful the writings on my A'zone notebook.

Try this for me, the next time, you see writings on someone else notebook, look at their writing. How do they make you feel? Confused? Angry? Worried? Inspired?

Only the reason why some companies engaged experts on handwriting to analyse the true personality, character and current state of mind of the person they hiring?

Does your handwriting inspires you?

TV School

Can a couch potato be good thing? If you choose to be actively engaging on the shows you watch, you can learn a thing or two. Just watching CSI and typing this blog, I just learn from Grissom how HotDog got its name. I learn about the new SMS 2.0 that Affle, a company in UK is working with M1 and Nokia into integrating live advertisements while SMSing.

Inspired by Oprah's daily show and dancing later with Ellen Degeneres Show.

Couple of month ago, I saw a children encyclopedia show about the Dark Ages, Renaissance period and Middle East has the oldest library. That I did not know. Something I like to learn now.

Well, I learn basic spoken Chinese while watching SBC, TCS, TV 8 Chinese drama series when I was 9 to 15 years old! (Oh how I missed those days)

Definitely choice of shows influence the mind. So far, they have worked for me.

In Search of Happiness

I happened to stumble upon BBC's six part series called Happiness Formula last weekend. The series was about the science of happiness. Research has found that happy people is more healthy and live longer. The show has already discuss, researched and experiment on why people are unhappy.

What would make me happy?

1. Seeing the glass half full - Gratitude of what I have achieved so far. Financially and maturity.
2. I compete with myself - I am better today than yesterday. I look forward to be even better tomorrow.
3. Friendship and connection - Everyday I am surrounded by people whom I can interact and have silly conversations.

Another method of how to feel happy and better instantly is by looking around and look for something that catches your eye and start to describe the item for 1 minute of why you like the item. This I learn from Elaine Grundy at XL Momentum night.

How do I serve to Happiness?

I make time to call up, email or
sms a friend and ask how they are. Allowing them to share with me their feelings. Being the listening ear. I am happy just to share with them that I am there and I care.

God's Eco Message

What's God's message on Eco? From what I know he has asked Evan Baxter to build an ark to save the world. Evan Baxter (Stevel Carell) was the rival collegue of Bruce Nolan (in Bruce Almighty played by Jim Carrey). This is pre-The Office (US) period. It is one of those light-hearted and God humour movie. The producers of the movie worked with The Conservation Fund and set up Go Zero and replanted trees that were destroyed during the making of this movie (building the Ark I suppose).

The movie website is cool and interactive with triva questions, desktops downloads and games for the family. www.evanalmighty.com

God's word of wisdom to Joan Baxter (Evan Baxter's wife played by my favourite actress Lauren Graham from Gilmore Girls)

God: If someone prays for patience, does God give him patience or the opportunity to be patience? If he prays for courage, does God give him courage or does God give him the opportunity to be courages?...

So what do you pray for? Your prayers may already been answered but do you see the opportunity that God has given you?

I am looking forward to watch this movie. Go Eco! Go Lauren! :-)

Anticipation Vs Participation

If you have already watch The Secret, you will be able to relate to it. Oprah had an earlier show where she invited the teachers of The Secret and Rhonda Bryne to the show to discuss about The Secret. Below is the follow-up interview and discussion Oprah had with James Arthur Ray and Dr Michael Beckwith.

There are some A-ha phrases on the show that are really a A-ha moment. Here goes:

"We are not anticipating good. We are not anticipants. We are participants. When you anticipating some future good, you are preventing that good that is all around you from expressing through you. ... All these laws that we begin to practice, opens us up to be full participating in life" - Michael Beckwith

Have the INTENTION and then give your intention ATTENTION. - James Arthur Ray

So stop trying. TRYing is failing with honour. Either you do it or don't do it.- James Arthur Ray

Unforgiveness is a form of abuse. - Michael Beckwith

Being unwilling to forgive is like drinking poison and expect the other person to die - James Arthur Ray

It is not about getting. It is about letting. - Michael Beckwith

God use me. For purpose greater than myself. Use my life for something greater than I know. How can I be use to serve. - Oprah Winfrey

Mediocrity always attacks Excellence -Michael Beckwith
